How Does PRP Therapy Rejuvenate Skin?

PRP is loaded with vital growth factors that are absorbed by your skin and heal damaged or dull cells. During a PRP Facial, the PRP is first injected into targeted areas of the face, such as under the eyes and nasolabial folds. Then the PRP is applied during a full facial microneedle treatment, which allows the plasma to be absorbed into thousands of microchannels in the skin. Most patients see results almost immediately and continuing to show optimal results with a series of treatments. There is almost no downtime, and treatments can be completed in less than an hour.

What Parts Of The face Can PRP Treat?

PRP is able to address a variety of cosmetic concerns in areas of the face that can be difficult to treat with other non-invasive techniques. The most popular uses of PRP include:

  • Revives skin tone and texture
  • Smooths horizontal lines in the neck
  • Treats fine lines and wrinkles around and below the eyes
  • Reduces dark eye circles and/ or puffiness under the eyes
  • Minimizes wrinkles and lines around the mouth
  • Eliminates acne scars

Here’s Why Chemical Peels Are the Secret to Perfect Skin

A spotless, lineless, flawless complexion is lying just beneath the surface of your skin—and doctors have found that a classic treatment is the fastest way there.

About the Procedure

Chemical peels are typically used to restore a youthful, vibrant appearance to wrinkly, blotchy, sun-damaged skin. As the upper layers of skin cells are shed, signals are sent to the living cells below to multiply and move up. This increases collagen and hyaluronic acid (natural filler) production to create younger looking skin.

Chemical Peel Benefits

There are many benefits to receiving a chemical peel. Not only do chemical peels reveal a brighter, smoother and more refined complexion, they also improve the overall look and feel of the skin. Other benefits of receiving a chemical peel include:

Making Your Skin + Skin-Care Products Work Better

Chemical peels can make your skin and your skin-care products work better. After a treatment, dead skin cells continue to be shed allowing the living cells below to multiple and move up, increasing collagen production and making more hyaluronic acid—essentially allowing the skin to act and appear “younger.” Aside from giving you smoother skin that's both more radiant and receptive, they also enable skin-care products used at home to be more effective because they remove several layers of skin build-up and congestion, allowing products to penetrate deeper into the skin.

Custom Peels To Address Specific Concerns

There are three main types of chemical face peels, and each has unique benefits for the skin:
1. The light chemical peel improves acne scars and skin texture and reduces the effects of sun damage.
2. The medium chemical peel improves acne as well. The medium peel also smoothes fine surface wrinkles and corrects pigment problems such as age spots.
3. The deep chemical peel helps treat sun-damaged skin, eliminates deep, coarse wrinkles, and can remove pre-cancerous growths.

Eliminate Acne and Soften Acne Scars

When it comes to addressing acne, chemical peels are a viable solution in helping to clear up breakouts and eliminating visible skin imperfections and superficial scars. Since the outer layer of old skin is removed during the process of a chemical peel, the new skin that replaces it is often smoother. The result is a reduction in the appearance of scars.

Reduce The Appearance of Under Eye Dark Circles

Regular chemical peels can exfoliate the skin and improve the tone and texture, particularly around the eyes and helps reduce pigmentation. Getting rid of all the top dead skin cell layers improves the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, and thickens the eyelid skin, which helps lessen the appearance of dark circles and bags under the eyes.

Chemical Peel Recovery & Maintenance

For long-term results, a series of three or more chemical peels spaced four to six weeks apart is recommended. The benefit of receiving a series of peels is that this treatment will be able to target the deeper layers of the epidermis, giving your skin an enhanced exfoliation. This type of deep exfoliation can stimulate cellular turnover, resulting in the production of healthy, glowing skin.

Dr. Brown performs MD grade chemical skin peels to target fine lines, hyperpigmentation, acne, scarring and more. The peels are endlessly customizable, using ingredients such as alpha and beta hydroxy acids, trichloroacetic acid (TCA), and brighteners like vitamin C.

The Science Behind the Platelet Rich Plasma Facial

A platelet-rich plasma (PRP) facial is a cosmetic procedure that involves drawing blood from your arm, separating out the red blood cells, and then injecting the platelet-rich plasma back into your face via microneedling.

This procedure was first popularized when Kim Kardashian had it done on TV in 2013 but what are the scientific benefits of injecting blood into your face?

What is Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP)?

PRP Facial Rejuvenation is a leading-edge procedure that harnesses the healing power of platelets and growth factors from your blood to stimulate a stem cell response. These stem cells help you to grow new collagen and blood vessels, repair and regenerate damaged skin, and help slow and reverse the signs of aging.

What can I expect during my PRP Facial?

This in-office procedure takes one hour, and patients can resume normal activities right away. Here are the steps:

Isolating & Activating PRP From Your Blood

To harvest the platelet-rich-plasma or PRP, 10cc of blood is drawn from the arm into a specialized tube and spun in a centrifuge to isolate the platelets and their growth factors from the rest of the blood products.

Injecting PRP Into Your Face

Then approximately 4cc of PRP are injected back into the face, focusing on problem areas such as nasolabial folds and undereye area. The remaining 4cc of PRP are applied during a full face microneedling procedure. Microneedling involves puncturing the skin with a multiple surgical needles to induce collagen production and improve the skin's texture. When combined with PRP, microneedling also infuses the entire face with growth factors via the microscopic channels created by the needles.

The Science Behind the Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) Facial

According to the inventor of this procedure, Charles Runels, MD, when PRP is introduced into precise areas of the skin, the platelet-rich plasma provides collagen growth and the regeneration of tissue. Since platelet-rich plasma contains growth factors, injecting the plasma back into the skin through the punctured holes helps speed up the healing of the tissues. This results in smoother and tighter skin, softer wrinkles and improved skin tone and texture.

Why Use Your Blood to Rejuvenate Your Face?

This procedure provides both restoration of the face’s shape and the improvement of tone and texture. Here are a few more of the beneficial reasons to use blood to rejuvenate your face:

  • The procedure restores youthful, healthy tone and texture with PRP injection facelift technology.
  • Unlike other types of injections, using platelet-rich plasma is natural and doesn’t carry the risk of allergy or rejection—because it’s your own blood.
  • The effects of this procedure continue to build over a two to three month period, and last for at least one to two years.

Signs You Could Benefit From a Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) Facial

If your face shows the following signs of aging, you could be a prime candidate for a platelet-rich plasma:

  • Face shape appears droopy as muscle and collagen decrease.
  • Skin texture looks worn, tired or loose.
  • Fine vertical lines appear around the mouth.
  • You have scars from trauma, acne, or chickenpox.

Recovery & Maintenance

If you are considering a PRP Facial, it’s important to be patient as the full effect of this treatment takes weeks to months. More than one session is often recommended. Immediately following the procedure, the skin may appear red and swollen. This will subside over the course of a few days. You can wear sunscreen and makeup the day after your procedure. After 2-3 weeks the growth factors start to work in the skin and results in thicker, more toned skin with greater amounts of collagen and elastic fibers in the dermis. Facial blood supply also increases as vascular channels open up to continue to rejuvenate the skin internally.

Not all PRP facials are the same! For maximum results, it is important that your practitioner perform both injections and micro-needling with the PRP liquid.
